Improved accessibility and way finding in conjunction with roadwork
Task: HOE360 Consulting developed for the City of Copenhagen a catalog of initiatives and measures, including the concept of visual communication through signs and route guidance to ensure a good and safe traction when the street is converted to construction site. There focus was initially on Istedgade in Vesterbro, which stood in front of a major re-design and therefore could be used to test the interventions. The goal was that experience from the side could be implemented for road works elsewhere in the city.
Value Creation: The concept for the guidance of cycling without any real do’s in Istedgade, mainly commuters, aimed to guide them along a parallel street. When setting up signs and blue lines for cyclists met before they reached the road works, with information on the alternative route, reached the easier way to their destination, primarily Central Station. There was also focus on facets of isolation, road safety, placement of signs of sufficient width temporary bike paths and access between the bicycle path and sidewalk, giving traders insured that their cycling customers, ie cyclists with chores in the street, still had access to the shops.
Background: The purpose of the project was to identify various measures and their effects in relation to mobility for cyclists, with the aim of ensuring cyclists excellent capability in connection with road works. Istedgade was an obvious place to try out concepts as Istedgade underwent extensive change.
