Flex Parking - bikes and cars sharing the same space
Task: HOE360 Consulting developed a concept for bicycle parking, where bikes and cars share space - called Flex-parking.
It´s a new and dynamic use of road space.
Value Creation: The concept allows the same area to be used for the correct usage at the right time of day, respectively parking of bicycles and cars. It makes better use of space in a busy street. After developing the concept and testing of 1:1, HOE360 Consulting continued the concept for Phase 2 and conducted project preparation for further four additional locations so Flex-Parking can be disclosed as part of the parking solutions, municipalities can offer.
Background: The location is located directly in proximity to a very busy residential shopping street. Many pupils cycle to school and park their bikes along the facades, increasing the battle for space in the street – among cyclists, motorists and pedestrians. Therefore this innovative solution was needed, as the many bikes located across the sidewalk and partly on the road had a negative impact on accessibility.
